We had this like
3 months ago, but Toyota made it official this morning, announcing a new top-of-the-range Tundra trim they’re calling “Capstone”.
They’re describing the Capstone Grade as bringing “a premium collection of features and upgrades” and a “halo grade” for the Tundra lineup. I see a trim package that brings all the good stuff without the cowboy aesthetics of the 1794 Edition.
The package is exclusive to the CrewMax body configuration with the 5.5-foot bed.
The premium features include:
- I-Force MAX hybrid powertrain, standard
- 22” wheels, ,standard
- Unique grille
- Chrome mirror caps
- Chrome “Tundra” tailgate inserts
- More chrome accents (they don’t specify where, exactly)
- Automatic running boards
- Semi-aniline leather seats with a unique black-and-white color combination
- “Dark American Walnut” trim on the console and dash (the slab on the console looks like a full-on side table from someone’s living room)
- Panoramic moonroof, standard
- Acoustic glass on the front doors
- 10-inch HUD standard, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
- 14-inch center screen for infotainment with “Hey Toyota” voice assist and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (I presume that’s wireless too, but the language in the press release is a bit fuzzy)
- Towing package, standard
From my read of the press release, certain features like adaptive load-levelling suspension, and 360 camera are available, but still optional, meaning this range-topping trim will still have the some stuff you’ll need to pay more for.
So it’s a new Uber-Tundra. Personally, I like the aesthetic better than aforementioned 1794 edition, and its for a totally different customer than the TRD Pro. If you were looking for a flagship Toyota truck, which one would you pick?
